Terminal Functional Planning & Architectural Design

We have established a systematic methodology for the strategic planning and functional design of terminals which focuses on the following.

  • Calculation of floor areas required for each operational process to drive the overall terminal size and therefore cost and value
  • Understanding & developing terminal functional planning strategy from the processing and functional point of view
  • Integrating operational processing and sequence (traditional & IATA) with a commercial approach
  • Develop intuitive way finding
  • Architectural concepts that are appropriate to the context of the airport, client and stakeholders
  • Develop the architectural envelope and structure around the planning strategy which by this stage will have footprint/floor plate size, volume, number of floors and cost parameters determined
  • Developing the appropriate planning strategy of the building to determine the most economic floor plates and volume. This process is driven by access to aircraft, type of operation i.e. transfer and O&D, segregation of pax flow streams and baggage handling systems
